Since we are little we are taught that children should play with carts and girls with dolls. Only that most of the dolls for older girls that we find today represent a stereotype of women that many parents claim not to be the most appropriate for their daughters: revealing costumes, a lot of makeup and accessories of a totally materialistic life.
Wendy Tsao is an artist who is completely transforming Bratz dolls with her project. What is the change? The artist removes makeup, changes her outfit and turns them into outstanding women like JK Rowling or Malala Yousafzai.
1. JK Rowling
British novelist best known for his saga about Harry Potter.
2. Waris Dirie
Somali model, writer and social activist in the fight against female genital mutilation.
3. Malala Yousafzai
Student, activist and Pakistani blogger. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, which made her the youngest person to receive this award in any category.
4. Roberta Bondar
Originally from Canada, she became the first astronaut woman and the first neurologist in space.
5. Jane Goodall
Primatologist, ethnologist and British anthropologist. She is also a messenger of UN peace.
Tsao was inspired by the Tree Change Dolls project, made by the artist Sonia Singh. Your dolls will soon start selling on eBay. What important woman would you like to see in your version, like a doll?
