How to get a monitor to not enter standby mode

Windows 7 includes many functionalities with the intention of reducing electricity consumption and prolonging the total life of your hardware. One way in which it is carried out is through the practice of turning off the monitor or the computer after a specified period of inactivity. When the device enters this state, which is called standby mode, since it does not turn off, it is receiving much less power than when it is turned on. You can choose to prevent the monitor from entering standby mode if you wish.

Steps to follow:

1.Click “Start” and then click “Control Panel.”

2.Click on the ‘system and security” link.

3.Click on the green link “Energy options”.

4.Click “Change plan settings” next to your selected energy plan. If you use multiple power plans, you will have to adjust the monitor settings for each of those plans.

5.Click the drop-down menu to the right of “Turn off the screen.” Then, choose “No.”

6.Click on “Save Changes.”

Tips

• If you disable the standby mode for the monitor, but it is often far from your computer, consider setting a screen saver. Right click on the desktop and select “Customize”. Then, click on “Screen Saver” in the lower right corner of the window to specify the settings.
